Never had much need for TV out and never paid much attention to it till I wanted to record a video to VHS.
I have an Elsa920 on WinXP. Oh and I learned something. 640 X 480 is not available for the GF3? I would never have tried it but for TV Out 640 X 480 is sometimes better, so I've read. 800 X 600 is the lowest resolution available at any refresh rate.
First I found out that the nVidia 22.50's I love so much simply don't work with TV Out. The option is there but it will not activate.
Second, I tried the stock MS GF3 drivers with don't support TV Out at all. Not even an option.
Third, I tried Elsa's Driver (Elsa920 23.11) which finally worked but here are the problems:
- 800 X 600 is the only resolution option.
- The image is squished horizontally and their are NO controls to adjust the Hz or Vertical screen size. They have position control but no resize control. My past ATI (Rage/Radeon) products always have!
- During Full Screen playback the image just plain sucks! It is distorted with horizontal lines, like interlacing lines out of sync. I tried multiple video sources including a few DVD's through PowerDVD and Media Player. Power DVD has output options but none made any difference.
I did this about a year ago when I RIPed some Sopranos episodes from DVD to MPEG2 then recorded them to VHS tape. I did it on a Radeon64 VIVO and it was excellent.
I could see that if one wanted to use their PC as a DVD player to a Television you would be unable to.
Any suggestions?
