  1. A previous post said that nobody had figured out how to copy vcds from India that are protected. I am curious about this. Does anybody have any idea what kind of copy protection they are using? Could the vcds be copied in "real time" with a video recorder software?

I'm the guy who posted the message referred to in the original post here. Yes, there has been much discussion here and in other forums about how to copy a copy protected VCD from India. I've yet to read anyone who knows how to do it or what is being used to protect them. Part of it is that, to be blunt, most of us aren't Indian and aren't all that interested in Indian VCDs.

While I applaud marvingj for (I hope) attempting to help, his post doesn't make a lot of sense. I think he is trying to tell you that you probably could copy such a VCD with a video recorder. These types of Indian VCDs don't play at all in PCs, so you'd have to play it in a DVD or VCD player and send the output to a video recorder of sometype. Part of the reason why they apparently haven't been copied is that they won't play in PCs. Of course, such VCDs have seriously violated VCD standards much like some copy protected audio CDs that can no longer use the official CD audio logo because they don't conform to the standards for such discs.

Once I get past crunch time at work, I'll try my hand at it, just because it's there!
