If you are getting an error from dvdauthorgui , you may not have the latest version which include's all activex component's in the installer .
(Just downloaded and installed on a clean reinstall of xp pro / sp2 + hardware drivers only , and it work's without fault)

As for those other program's ... from what you have listed as os , I would think your problem is related to directx9 , a required component of service pack 2 , this would be where ulead's product might having the problem .

As for bell's and whistle's dvd authoring :

    Dvdauthorgui - basic authoring
    The gimp - menu design , button's , and png's using alpha's for motion menu's
    Avisynth - got to have
    Besweet - audio conversion
    Batchdemux - demux vob's and mpeg2
    Vobedit - demux vob's
    Ifoedit - (pal) authoring
Rejig - (ntsc) authoring + many other feature's
    Bbmpeg - best mpeg2 encoder (everything accept's the m2v stream's) , accept's frameserved file's from virtualdub , avisynth preview for motion script's .
    ffmpeg13 - 6 channel ac3 (5.1) , pal to ntsc conversion work's .
Pgcedit - nav command editing and more ... allow's the mixing of ntsc / pal / all known dvd allowed fomat size's .
    Virtualdub - come's in 3 flavour's now ... a must have
Super - too grind those "error" video stream's , capable of fixing most problematic stream's
    Gspot - avi info
    www.softella.com for directshow filter manager
    Ac3filter's - for audio playback
Koolplaya - play's project dvd's folder , good for prior testing before final burn .
    Subrip - rip subtitle's , and button's from menu's
    Srt2sup - convert's srt format subtitle's to ifoedit format
Visualsubsync - generate your own subtitle's , even rip audio from vcd's
    Blender - 3d animation for menu's
    Imgtool's - basic dvd burning
Dvd decrypter - dvd burning , mini dvd burning to cd , dl burning
Folder2iso - create iso of dvd
    Mp4cam2avi - nero mp4 to avi

That should be just about the list ... bonus tool's

Slideshowmovie maker - photo slideshow (convert with bbmpeg to mpeg2)
    Dvdslideshowgui - similar , output's dirrectly to mpeg2
    Movie13 by jansoft - handy
    Camstudio - another handy tool
Wax2 - would be handy if it didnt keep stuffing up (prefer blender)

The list gose on , but what is listed should just about cover anything to do with dvd creativity

Of course there are many other tool's about for dv conversion and capture worthy of adding to your video kit .

Welcome to the forum. In the future, please try to use a better title for your posts.

I like Sonic Scenarist for authoring, which is very powerful and correctly supports some parts of the DVD specification (specifically the use of MPEG-1 video and GOPs of 18 or less for NTSC video) that many cheaper authoring programs do not support at all. However, Scenarist is NOT user friendly and unless you find a (cough! cough!) "demo" version somewhere, it's very expensive. It is, however, professional quality.

Many people use DVD Lab Pro. Perhaps if you post the specific error message you receive when trying to install it instead of saying it complains about "some .dll application", someone can help you.

Although perhaps not quite professional standard, Ulead DVD Workshop 2.0 is up there with the top few and can do most things. You say it 'doesn't work', can you be a bit more specific. What doesn't work?
