I dl'd the new Internet Explorer 7 beta from MS; I still like FireFox better... several reasons:

The new IE tab function isn't as convenient as FireFox, and tabs are real handy for forumfolks.

Its still a beta, but I couldn't find the 'Save Webpage As' function, which is real handy for viewing tutorials etc offline without running out the inkjet carts.

After installing it, I noticed a lack of text sharpness on my LCD monitor, much like the fuzzyness of Pdfs, tho that may be my gear. Not a prob with Firefox tho.

Prob'ly the greatest change is that IE7 insistently attempts to install an 'anti-phishing' module, which works apparently by sending every web address you access to MS.

I do have a Firefox Q- I like the little Personal Toolbar a lot; does anybody know how to add a 2nd row, instead of getting the 'More' arrow?

  3. I tried the IE7beta but went back to 6 because I thought 7 wasn't as functional.
OT:anybody try Windows Defender beta?I don't get what it does,Ad-Aware will detect spyware that WD doesn't.

  4. I've tried defender extensively and hated it. I used MS Anti-spyware for a long time and it was fine. When they went to Defender I couldn't even get it to do a full scan on two out of three systems I had it on. It has a lot of update issues as well. I've got one machine with it still there just to see how the upgrade improve it but so far I'm still not impressed. I'm using Ad-aware Plus right now which works just fine. Webroot Spysweeper is still the top dawg when it comes to real time protection IMO though.

    BJ- well, its a start!

MG- as far as I can tell, its just another gimmick to check you aren't using an 'unverified' version of Windows, and make sure their update-download stream is always open to your computer.

Hey BJ! Its a KIDS DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME feature!
I fiddled with it a bit more- it is expecting there to be a pre-existing Folder in the Bookmarks, but what it created was an inaccessible new toolbar covering the also inaccessible navbar. To fix it you gotta reset defaults; notfun.

  11. I just do not see how Internet Exploder 7 can compete against Firefox. Exploder had not been updated for some time, then they copy some of the features in FF, and call it a new version.

  13. ....and over at my company, we're not allowed to use Microsoft products. So, Firefox it is and Firefox it will remain.

To be fair... a lot of people are recommending Opera too

IE is competing for the dummies market; by strongarming many websites to only work with MS, which of course is only something a monopoly would try. (I read somewhere- cnet I think- that the EU has the stripped XPN available, but 'no computer manufacturer shipped product with it'...)

But then for that, 'The Fox*' has an extension that opens IE in one of its own tabs. Somehow I don't see Bill returning the favor on that one... https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1419/

    * OT: anybody remember that Danny Kaye movie The Court Jester? His armor gets magnetized while he's repeating this 'the vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true'... one of the funniest sequences I can remember.
