I was starting to think about possibly getting a settop dvd recorder this summer now that some go for under a $100. However I still have a ton of vhs tapes I've never dubbed with my capture card so I still want a vcr in the same room with the dvd recorder. I see that there are some vcr/dvd recorder combos in the $150 range.
I was wondering if you could use your exisiting vcr and a seperate dvd recorder and loop one antenna signal from one to the other? Could you have the signal go first to the vcr then to the dvd recorder then to the tv?? Or would it be simpler to spend a little more and simply get the combo vcr/dvd recorder???
I've seen good comments about JVC and liteon. I'm in the browsing stage and not sure at all if I'm commit to buying one right now. But I was curious about hooking a vcr to the recorder then to the tv. User info is welcome.

Macrovision will mess up playback from Macrovison DVD's if you hook things up as you suggest.

Well what if the dvd recorder is last on the chain up to the tv? I'm talking about using a rf antenna cable.

Why don't you connect VCR A/V output to your DVD Recorder A/V input and its output to TV input? I think video quality would be better.
Doesn't your TV have an available A/V input? -
No av input on the tv in question just rf input. Actually I haven't bought one yet just throwing out ideas.

Uhmm... I think VCR -> DVD Recorder connection is critical. Why don't you buy a RF modulator to connect DVD AV output to your TV RF input? It converts composite (or SVHS) signal to RF (channel 3 or 4). I bought one here, in Brazil, for about US$ 15.
In my opinion, your recorder will give better quality if you use its AV input.
Good luck.
PS: I don't know if your DVD recorder can output through RF. Probably it can't. -
Time for a new TV
Or if no choice use a A/B/C RF switch to the TV (cable box/vcr/dvdr). Feed the vcr to the dvdr with composite. Feed the cable box to the dvdr with S-Video or composite.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

This is what I do. I connect the VCR into the AV inputs at the FRONT of the DVD Recorder, this works just fine. I have recorded hours of video this way.
BTW I also daisy chain the two devices and so far have had no problems. I have a LG 160GB HDD"Whenever I need to "get away,'' I just get away in my mind.
