help with audio type conversions

I downloaded a small clip and trieed to play it with QT 6.5 under 10.3.8 ive not had the time to go to 10.4.x or QT 7 yet

in QT it says generic MPEG-4, 464x272, unknown
unknown, stereo, 48000hx.

it plays the video portion fine with no audio. then I open the same file in MPlayer OS X 2 and it plays both the audio and video

is there a way to 'convert' the audio into a format that QT 6.5 will then play in that palyer?

if QT won't play the audio, your only choice is to try
ffmpegx and convert the file to something more QT compatible.

If you drag and drop the file onto the Summary window in
ffmpegx, what does it say about the audio?

it says ac3, 48000 Hz, stereo, 192 kb/s

under video it says: mpeg4, yuv420p, 464x272, 29.97 fps

its a AVI file

You need the AC3 Codec.

Once you have downloaded and unzipped, place the file in the "library\quicktime" folder

exacto! works fine now. any other 'big' things I need to put in the Qt file? I have 3ivx D4 4.5.1, AC3, AlchemyTv ( i have an alchemy DVR card) and DivX5 and DivX 6
