    I'm going DVD to Xvid useing DVDx and the latest version of the Xvid codec (2 passes).

    My .avi file comes out looking really nice. However there is a minor problem - no matter what software player I use to play the file back, the last 1 second or so gets clipped off. I was watching the DVDx window when the file was being made, just as it was finishing, and it did go all the way to the very last frame- so I dont think any frames are missing. The only thing suspicious reported by Gspot is that it says "garbage at end" of the file, so I'm thinking that maybe when the player is looking ahead a bit and hits that spot it craps out just before finishing?? Is that possible? Any suggestions? I was thinking that perhaps there might be a program to open the .avi in that can do a "file save" with out a re-encode to eliminate whatever the extra junk is at the end of the file. Any such thing out there?

    I tried to search for the answer to this myself, but no luck. If this has been addressed elsewhere, please just point me in the right direction.

    This is admittedly a minor problem, because all that gets cut is the final fade out of the credits, btu it would be good to have things correct.

    Thanks,

    Toastie

  2. had this myself using DVDx, don't think I ever managed to find a workaround in the 3 years I've been using it.

    AFAIK this doesn't happen when using DVDX's built-in mpeg1 or mpeg2 encoders, but It's been a while since I ripped anything to divx/xvid.

  3. You might try re-multiplexing the AVI file with VirtualDub.

    File -> Open Video File
    (optional) Video -> Scan Video Stream For Errors
    Video -> Direct Stream Copy
    Audio -> Direct Stream Copy
    File -> Save as AVI

    That did get rid of the garbage at the end of the file, but its still clipped. Perhaps this is a problem with DVDx - Recda421 mentioned having the same problem.
