  1. I've tried a lot of encoding software out in the past. However all that I've come across only offer either Ntsc or Pal as the region format. The main prog that I've used until now is Tmpgenc + Tmpgenc DVD Author. These have served me well for all my encoding needs in the past. However I may be needing to encode upcoming files in the region free area very shortly, rather than seperate ones in Ntsc & Pal which I currently do.

So does anybody know any names of encoding software that will allow me to encode high quality files in the region free format. I don't need them converted directly to DVD format (Vob, Bup, Ifo etc). I wish to author the files after encoding them in a seperate program, so am only needing an output of Mpeg2.

    Thanks for any help received.

Region free only means which region coding locking system the dvd player responds to. If you buy a dvd in a different region it won't play it unless its a "region free" dvd player.

If you format it yourself you have no region encoding that you do on a consumer level.

You still have to deal with ntsc and pal. Those are the main formats for dvd. All region coding does is try to restrict which areas can buy which dvds and when.

You will need to decide between ntsc and pal. Though apparently most pal dvd players can play ntsc without a problem. And these days you can buy inexpensive ntsc players that will play pal reasonably well at a cheap price without converting.

So your best bet is to probably just encode to ntsc and not worry about it.

    You are confused.
Region has nothing to do with the format.
If you are encoding into PAL or NTSC with TmpgEnc, and authoring & burning with DVDA, those 2 formats will already be Region free.

You got in before me Yoda
