  1. Hi

    I've made a movie of about 1.5 hours using iMovie which has taken up most of the disk space on my iMac G3/600. I need to export it to DVD using what I've got (which isn't alot) ;

External Pioneer DVR-106, Toast 6, OSX.2.8 and 8Gb of free space.

    a) Is it possible with what I've got.
    b) If not, what is the cheapest way of me upgrading what I've got (h/ware or s/ware) to enable me to burn to DVD.

    Cheers in advance.

Your problem may the amount of hard drive free space. Toast 6 will author and burn the DVD but it needs space for its temporary files. You may have enough, but I'm not sure of that. Toast should give an error message at the start if there isn't enough hard drive space. Maybe you can copy some of your other files from your hard drive to a CD or DVD to free up hard drive room.

The encoding will taken many hours. Be patient. Ideally I would choose Save as Disc Image from the Toast File menu rather than click on the burn disc button, but that also takes up hard drive space equal to the size of the DVD.

  3. Presumably though I have to export my movie from iMovie first. I'm exporting to full DV format. and I had to abort when the file size was obviously going to far exceed my free space. Is it possible to export straight from iMovie to DVD without using iDVD?

No you don't have to export from iMovie. You save your iMovie Project, open the folder containing the iMovie Project, select the iMovie reference file (.mov), drag that file to the Toast Video window.

  5. My .mov file is only 342kb. Is that right?

Drag it into Toast and you'll see your movie there. The project file points to the different parts of your video files, still images, sound etc. that you've put into your iMovie. Pretty cool, huh?

  7. OK. Four days later I've got my disc image and things ae looking good (thanks Frobozz). But, when I try to bun the DVD Toast tells me that my DVD-R only has 4.4Gb available. Whats going on?

    Disks are 4.7Gb from PCLine.

  8. It's like a HD... you buy a 160 gig hd... you actually get about145- 150 .... you only get 4.4 gigs to a dvd-r... you may need to just compress your video... you won't lose much , just use something like DVD2oneX (I think you can compress that type of file) But always check your media you're going to in the computer to make sure you have enough space Good luck- Peace

  9. How do I get DVD2ONEX to accept my .toast disc image as input? It won't let me drag and drop.

  10. Hmmn, mount the image and select the VIDEO_TS folder.

Hey I've been trying the same thing as Jason and it works using the .mov file drag and drop. The problem is back ground noise speaking etc still shows up on the dvd after I've deleted it during editing in imovie to be replaced by music/commentary etc.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or a way of getting around this?

You need to be dragging into Toast the small .mov file from your iMovie Projects folder that has the name of your project. That's the one that knows all the edits you've made in iMovie. If that doesn't work to get just the audio track you want you may need to use iMovie to "Share" as a full quality QuickTime movie and then use that in Toast.

I'm pretty sure I'm using the right .mov file. When you say share as a full quality quicktime file do you mean export from imovie in a quicktime format?

Yes, I mean export as a full quality Quicktime movie. iMovie uses the term "Share" to mean export. I believe doing this will lose any chapter markers you may have set.

Cheers Froboz I'll give that a go. I'm going to have to clear some data from my computer to make space for the export...NIGHTMARE!
