    Hi All!

I have a doubt. Where do the sound tracks are located, inside the DVD files?

I've already opened some VOBs files, and they just show the original sound track.

Does the VOB contain inside of it a kind of mapping, where it chooses the right sound track? Are the sound tracks all muxed inside the VOB, and the player chooses it?

As you can see, I have lots of hypothesys and doubts...

    Thanks in advance!!!
    Best regards,
    Joelson.

The VOBs contain the video and the different soundtracks and subtitles. The IFOs contain the mapping for the DVD player to find all these. Here's one of the better explanations: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/dvd-structure.htm

    Thank you.
But if I play one isolated VOB, why does it play in the original soundtrack? Why doesn't it choose another soundtrack?
    Best regards,
    Joelson.

Playing an isolated vob will always play the first (default) audio track (shown in the ifo file as ID 0x80) ... you should still be able to select the other soundtracks from within your player (in power dvd you would right click then select audio languages and select the soundtrack to be played from a list of available tracks).

if you open an ifo file in ifo edit you will be able to see the mappings and Id codes for all the soundtracks available on the chosen dvd ...

    eg:
    Audio 1: English (Dolby ac-3) 6ch 48Kbps DRC (ID: 0x80)
    Audio 2: German (Dolby ac-3) 6ch 48Kbps DRC (ID: 0x81)
    Audio 3: English (Dolby ac-3) 2ch 48Kbps DRC (ID: 0x82) Directors Comments

    Edit...
    in the above example...

audio 1 is english dolby 5.1
audio 2 is german dolby 5.1
audio 3 is english dolby 2 channel (stereo) directors comments.

audio 1 is always default and will always be played unless a different audio track is selected.

it is possible to use ifoupdate and alter the ifo file and move the german audio to be audio 1 ... in which case the german audio would become default and always play first ... however this would only work when selecting to play the whole dvd as the vobs will not have changed and selecting an isolated vob would still result in the english audio being played
