  1. First, I have been at this for a long time, but am just now starting with .ogm files. I am posting here because people tend to pity noobs, that, and I need the help as much as a noob. I would gladly offer any of my expertice if such courtesy is extended to me. I need to know how to convert .ogm to .avi, .mov, .mpg, .mpeg, .anything but .ogm, .mkv, and real media. I need a method that can be done using Mac os X.3.1, or 9.2.2 classic. Please answer this and put an end to my misery once and for all! Please, I beg of you.

j/k Sorry I don't have the answer, I just couldn't resist... You could try mencoderX, as mplayer is supposed to support OGM files...

what type of video do OGM files have? It should be MPG of some sort, right? Or maybe its XviD. That would make sense. Two opensource projects melding together like some sort of rotten fish...

Anyway, let us know what type of video is in the OGM and it might be easier to help you.
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

  5. The video half of .ogm files are divx, but the audio is .ogg vorbis. This means that I can't simply use divx doctor to fix my problems. Please go on trying to help me.

  6. I have mencoder OS X 0.7.7 and 0.7.5, but when attempting to convert .ogm with them, they give me an error stating:

    Mencoder OS X.app//Contents/Resources/mencoder: No match.

    Any ideas?

I had luck with this once, try this:
    using OS X 10.2.8.

Apps needed: FFMPEGX, QuickTime Pro 6, an audio capture app.

    Open the .ogm in FFMPEGX.
Save as MPG-4[.avi], 1:1, size same as original.
leave audio unchecked, ffmpegx will probably choke on it
otherwise... this will produce video with no sound.

now, open Video in QT Pro 6.
Go back to original source file.
Open and launch one of the following audio capture apps:
    Wiretap
    Audio HiJack
    Audio Hijack Pro*

Now, set the audio capture app to "hijack" VLC, record to hard disk
as AIFF 16 bit, 2 channel Stereo.
    Open VLC.
click "Start recording" on the audio capture app.
Play the the .ogm in VLC to the end.
When it is done and VLC closes, click "Stop Recording" in
the audio capture app, and click "Release" .

Now back in QT Pro 6, go back and open the AIFF you just made.
Play to make sure it sounds good. stop.
    Select all audio.
Select your video AVI. Select all Video. Copy all Video.
Select your audio file. Go to Edit-->Add Scaled and this will add
the video to the audio. Save as Self contained movie file.

This will give you a QT movie file you can make into ANYTHING.

  9. FFMPGEX only gave me a 4k file in an attempt to encode video only and no audio.

To use another method, installing OGM Tools and demux the file, this too, was not working:

I installed MKV Tools (aka OGM Tools v. 1.5) and when I followed these instructions (posted another thread on this board) to demux the OGM, I got a "command not found." The commands list is apparently

    options:
inname Use 'inname' as the source.
-o, --output out Use 'outname' as the base for destination file names.
    '-v1', '-v2', '-a1', '-t1'... will be appended to
    this name. Default: use 'inname'.
-a, --astream n Extract specified audio stream. Can be used more
than once. Default: extract all streams.
-d, --vstream n Extract specified video stream. Can be used more
than once. Default: extract all streams.
-t, --tstream n Extract specified text stream. Can be used more
than once. Default: extract all streams.
-na, --noaudio Don't extract any audio streams.
-nv, --novideo Don't extract any video streams.
-nt, --notext Don't extract any text streams.
    Default: extract all streams.
-r, --raw Extract the raw streams only.
    Default: extract to useful formats
    (AVI, WAV, OGG, SRT...).
    -v, --verbose Increase verbosity.
    -h, --help Show this help.
    -V, --version Show version number.

Has the command to demux changed? What other procedure or method can I demux an OGM file? Thanks. I was able to use Audio Hijack to create an AIFF of the soundtrack

    This is on Panther 10.3.9

  10. use D-Vision 3 to demux the file and then use Amadeus II to convert the audio file to a different format, you can then use quicktime pro to combine the avi/sound file and save as a mov file or mp4...
    Quote Quote
  11. Thanks. I followed these instructions and it works best if you use Audacity or Amadeus II to translate the OGG audio file to an MP3 file and then Add to Scaled to the video. This way the resulting file size approximates how the original size should be (instead of WAV or AIF which blows it up unnecessarily).

Now that I've done that on 2 files. It all looks good but when i took the files to a standalone Divx DVD player...it won't work! I don't understand it. The soundtrack appears synched, the info data looks the same as any other Divx file used. I used the Save As option under QTPro and instead of saving as a MOV I saved extension as .avi "as self-contained movie." Hmmm...let me try Save as "Divx AVI"... Hmm..
    Quote Quote
  12. you might have to install the divx codecs in order for the avi to work on your dvd player as quicktime pro doesn't come with them...

  13. yes, it's a long list of Export options and the Divx AvI option is under Export. Trying right now! Home Theater Profile (!)

Original file is Divx 4.1.2 and I believe I'm exporting under Divx 5.0

Note that MKVToolnix and OGMTools are two different programs by the same author. What command did you try to use?

  15. I attempted to use "ogmdemux" but I've abandoned that in favor of demuxing via D-Vision 3 tools which is MUCH easier.

My attempt last night to export an aiff + mp3 as Divx AVI via QT Pro from the OGM file resulted in a file that *appeared* to be a proper mpeg-4 AVI but it failed to be recognized by my standalone Divx player. (file name actually showed up 2x on the menu!) I'm now converting it to an SVCD as a consolation. Hopefully that will work!

  16. Could you pass the new MP3 and the DivX video through DVision 3 to multiplex it instead of using quicktime pro? Just click on the Add audio portion of the tools and select the new MP3 with the old DivX video.

  17. !! It works! It plays on the standalone player now! Astonishing. The only side-effect is the file name showed up 2x on the menu. Hmmm... but it plays!

    The procedure that works:

    Processing OGM files:

    Take 1 OGM file:

    1) Demux using D-Vision 3 Tools
    2) Convert audio via Audacity/Amadeus II from OGG to mp3
    3) Remultiplex using D-Vision 3
    4) Burn

Attempting this via QTPro's Divx AVI export took like 90 minutes to output and this procedure is much faster and cleaner. Does not require re-encoding.

    THANKS.

This works perfectly! Thank you for the info. Unafraid of OGM/OGG now! [/b]

  20. OGMtools to convert ogms to "anything Mac"

    http://home.comcast.net/~piewalker/ogmtools.zip
    link checked working today

will get you "OGMtools" compiled for Mac OSX
they are used in the terminal & are lighting fast

The one you will be interested in is ogmdemux. So, drag that to the terminal, then drag your .ogm file, and press return. you should end up with the demuxed streams. Chances are a video file, like .avi, and an audio file, like .ogg, .mp3, .wav, etc... ok, now you have a .avi, and a few .ogg files, and a .srt. The .srt is a subtitles file, and chances are is pretty much useless. You may see "many" ogg files & they are probally different stereo audio tracks, not L/R channels of one. (IE, it could be an english and a french track, or a main track and a commentary track). So, go ahead and download the
Ogg Vorbis QT components (QT6): http://qtcomponents.sourceforge.net/
Once you get those, install them correctly in ~/Library/QuickTime/ or /Library/QuickTime/ That should give you the ability to play the .ogg files in QT, at which point you can export them to something else (MP3, AAC), or just straight up add to the . avi in QT, and save as a .mov.

    works great for me
    hope it helps "others"

  21. Or, assuming that you have a version of ffmpeg compiled with ogg vorbis support:

    ffmpeg -i /path/to/some.ogg /path/to/creamy.mp3

btw, playing ogg in QT7 is LeBusted - so the quicktime component wouldn't work.

    thanks for the heads up...
I'm not with QT7 yet... my iBook with "Tiger" arives on the 8th :•)
So, I'll keep running 10.3 for awhile on my iMac to keep QT6 alive.

How exactly do I do this? Thanks!

  24. Click on Add Audio Track under Tools. This is the procedure. The answer to this question is SEVEN notes higher (above) the discussion thread where the poster said:
