I use a microphone to record voice, etc. using windows Sound Recorder (the one that comes with windows "accessories"). I can do it fine on one computer so I know the mic works. One of my computers doesn't seem to hear anything.
The jack plugs into the back of the computer - is that some sort of multiu-port card likely? Is there anything else to check but the hardware (computer jack port)? Could it be the software or something interfering?
Thanks.

Some sound cards can be configured to allow the microphone jack to be configured for speaker output as part of a surround sound system. Check the configuration software that came with the card.
