  1. Hi, I was wondering if I could get some help. So I just bought a dell laptop with Windows Media. I also got a TV tuner card (has A/V, S-cable, and analog inputs). It outputs to the computer via USB. Long story short, I set up my channels correctly I think. I say I think because I haven't actually hooked up the analog cable, so haven't actually seen any channels, but I'm getting off topic....

Long story short, I have a PS2 hooked up to the tuner through the A/V inputs. Unfortuantely for the Media Center though is that it only seem to be able to watch the numbered channels. How can I switch to the "Input" or "Component" channel where the PS2 is hooked up to?

Thanks, and sorry if it is a wordy, confusing explanation of my dilemma.

    UMM, how should we know?

"Windows Media" means MCE? Are you doing this in MCE?
    What "card".

MCE requires you to return to Dell for support and to buy any add-ons from the MCE approved list. Otherwise you are the support and design engineer.

  3. Uh, well I was hoping that possibly someone could help me out. That's why I put it in the "Computer" forum. Dunno why I'm getting - what seems to be - attitude.

Yes, it means Windows Media = Windows Media Center Edition, and yes I'm working it in MCE.

And like I stated, I just need to know how to view the A/V input from the card (using the MCE). The "card" is similar to say a Hauppage USB tv tuner.

Can you find your device on this list?
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter/partners/directory.mspx

Here is a list of MCE forums

Somewhere in the TV signal or Recorder menu depending on your device.

  5. My device wasn't listed but it is an ITE product, on the back of the device it says "ITE Accessory." I think E231250 is the model #. It was a generic DELL add-on while I customized my laptop; has DELL across the top of it.

I went to the GreenButton Forum, and long story short, someone kida had th same question, but a response from one guy says that theres usually too much lag between press a button and the actual function. So I guess I might as well forget about it.

Thanks tho ed, appreciate the help.

I'd call Dell and ask for a refund. Then get a Hauppauge or other supported card. Get a card that hardware encodes.

  7. Software drives hardware purchasing decisions.

You should have made certain that your capture hardware was supported by MCE before purchasing it.

Identifying the hardware in your first post would have been helpful, attempting to make it work with the standard cable connection would have told you and everyone else a lot before asking the PS2 question. BTW, if it does, then you can set the PS2 to be on Channel 3 or 4.
It may work, even though it is not on the list. But if it doesn't, you are SOL.

MCE sucks. Many Microsoft limitations, designed for viewing, NOT capture, limited list of hardware support, it was built by the same company that designed DRM, that should tell you something right there. Many better, cheaper, better supported, more usable, more capture-friendly apps available.
