hello all, i want to say thanks in advance for any help i can get.

my problem is im trying to rip a dvd with japanese audio and and english subs. ive no problem with getting the first episode to work right but the latter 3 just dont want to. i have done the same procedure with them but the subs dont appear.

all 4 episodes on the dvd are connected so its like one big movie, when i ripped it as one movie the subs worked fine on all four episodes. again when i split them up the last 3 dont work. agk gives me the option to put subs on them but they just dont appear.

    any help would be appreciated.

    ps great community

Uh, any chance you could tell us exactly WHAT your procedure is? As you can see, the silence that has greeted you is a reflection of the lack of information you have provided. Be very specific about what programs you are using to rip and how you are splitting the files. Probably whatever you are using to split the ripped files into pieces is trashing the subtitles. I would suggest ripping specific episodes. This might be most easily done by ripping in IFO mode using some kind of ripper that supports this.

Obviously, the changes that you applied to the first episode were not applied to the rest. Since you have everything on one timeline, you're going to have to combine your subs into one file also. This way, the changes will apply to all.

I know it's a matter of preferences, but I prefer to put each episode on its own timeline. Makes things a little easier.

  5. Try using reauthor mode in DVDShrink to edit out each episode.

  6. Hi-

Your problem is that the timestamps for the subs assume one big movie. You split them into their episodes, the timestamps aren't reset. So, it works fine for the first episode. But, say each episode is 25 minutes long. The second episode originally began at the 25 minute mark, as did the subs. You split the episodes, the second episode now begins at 0, but the subs for episode 2 still begin at the 25 minute mark.

The solution is to first find the length of each episode (open the AVIs in VDubMod and go File->File Information) and adjust the timestamps for the subs for each episode. Open the subs in Sub Cutter (a utility that comes with the VobSub package, also in the Subtitle Tab of GKnot if you have that installed. You fool with it a bit and you'll get the hang of it. The subs for the 2nd episode have to be adjusted (moved forward) by the length of the first episode. The subs for the 3rd episode have to be adjusted by the length of the 1st+2nd episodes. Etc.

You can open the IDX for each episode using Notepad and you'll see the timestamps and understand what I'm saying better.
