I was looking for a TY source nearer to me and was recomended this place in Athens. The TY's available seem different ranges than those available in the usa. There is a 'gold' , 'blue' , 'ceramic', 'silver', 'corina' and 'white/printable' TY range, plus the 'Thats' branded versions. They appear cosher, if so why are they different to those in the usa, which appear to be only the silver or white ? Do they appear ok to you guys ?, check it at www.diskimpex.gr/firstlook.htm clicking on each one gives you an image. What do you think ?
Incidentally, the prices are in Euro.

They all appear to have their logo or name on each disc....even the silver top ones look like they have discImplex.gr on bottom(outer) edge in small print.
-
I just noticed the logo printed on the bottom also. So what do you think Hech, geniune Ty's or what ? Is it possible for the importer to have his logo stamped on like that ? Lordsmurf, Baldrick, what do they say to you ?
-
I don't know man...the only blank media I have ever read about being faked is TY....but that place sure appears to have a shitload of TY stuff.
If they had an English site I might even try them though cause I agree with you....TY's are damn expensive here vs. in America. -
Hech, have a look at www.svp.co.uk, they do TYs, will price in Euros and ship to Europe. They are one of the few suppliers that quote the media code for every disc they sell too.
-
I check there quite often.
The only problem is that I'm used to seeing the prices for TY's at www.rima.com and it sickens me to see what I will pay for them here... -
THAT'S is the TY brand name (that I'm aware of).
You see it mostly in Japan.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I'm convinsed that the "Thats" branded are true TY's but scheptical on those gold/blue/ceramic versions. Would true TY's have an importers' website printed on the discs ? How is that possible on dvd's that are imported from Japan ? Would unbranded TY's have "made in Japan by Taiyo Yuden" printed in big letters on the face of the disc ? Never seen them on any usa website. Have you seen them on the link Lordsmurf ? Your opinion on those would be highly valued !
Also, the usa printables are full hub printables whereas here they're shown as standard, exept for the "Thats". Different production for different countries ?
Worst case senario, I might go for the "Thats" printables which seem a sure bet.
Hech, their ad seems pretty English selfexplanatory but if anything in Greek you can't figure out, just ask me ! -
There were non-hub white printable TYs available in the US for quite some time. Now the regular printables are all silver. In Japan under various brands you can get white, silver and even gold non-hub printable TYG02. Korea has its own official TY brand called "Fusion" so it's conceivable the discs on that site are true TY for the Greek market.
-
Further to my quieries early, just adding that the Greek place, upon enquiering does not send out of Greece, or to neighboring countires. All I can say about TY, they may be great discs, but jeez, if its this difficult to get them their marketing/distribution network needs reveiwing. If you can get the crappy discs everywhere in the world, why are the flaming TY's so exclusive and limited distribution to only a few countries ?

Finally waited for someone to go to Athens and brought us back a shitload of "Thats" 50pk spindles TYG02's. All I can say is that they are terrific discs. No B grades or anything like that. They are the real macoy. The white ceramic surface is clean and easy to write on, and at about 18 Euro/50 the price is good. The "Thats" branding is an extra stamp of assurance they come straight from the good guys, and worth that extra few cents. Not sure if they're available to you guys as "Thats", but if they are and you have doubts about the unbranded TY's, go for the "Thats" brand. I'll be buying them everytime I have someone going over to Athens.
