Smashed a canoe into a log once in some rapids and tipped it over in the middle of a 8 day trip. Fotunately the beer was saved so all was well.

Saw this happen, they hit a I-beam hidden under the water. 1st day on another 8 day canoe trip. There was a small store near the bridge and we were able to get a canoe within 12 hours.

Yeah, that would suck. I used to go canoeing all the time in the Finger Lakes. Awesome being out there during the sunset. However, a bad time was when it was a clear day, we start heading across the lake, about 1/3 of the way, the coulds dump buckets of water. We're all freaking out too from hearing the thunder, but didn't see any lightning (luckily). By the time we made it to shore the canoes looked like they had been swamped. We had to have one canoe rescue 2 people because their canoe was almost completely submerged when they were about 100feet from the shore. We were not where we were supposed to be, because we were trying to get to shore ASAP. We then had to hike with the canoes for about 8 miles in the rain until we got to the campsite.

That was the last time I had gone canoeing as a BoyScout. :/
