I recently bought and installed an NEC 3550A DVD burner. The first thing I did was burn a DVD of the 2006 Oscars, captured on my Hauppauge PVR. As usual, I used an ISO burn via DVDdecrypter. And as before, the burn went well. But, I noticed one thing right away. The version of Nero I had installed was bundled with my old burner ... and consequently wouldn't recognize my new burner. So, while I had a means to burn DVDs, I had no means to burn CDs. Fortunately, I discovered DeepBurner (freeware). But I noticed something with it that may be software related or hardware related and wanted to see if anyone knew the answer.

I run a dual-boot system, XP Home in one partition, 98SE in the other. DeepBurner works flawlessly on the 98SE side but does all kinds of weird stuff on the XP side. According to the page I downloaded it from, DeepBurner is supposed to work on XP just like 98SE. But on the XP side, it sometimes skews the tracks (recording 2 tracks as 1 continuous track) and sometimes shuts down Windows after the burn is complete. Any clues to the cause?

In any case, at least I have DVD and CD burning capabilities again.

Sounds like you have that stupid setting for 'shut down when done' enabled. Uncheck that option, and you should be golden.

It has been in my experience that when installing a new burning drive if you uninstall Nero, install the drive, reinstall Nero everything works as it should. In alot of cases certain things in nero will have odd results and in some cases nero will fail to recognize the new drive if you don't do the above.

I've never had that problem - I've noticed that each time Nero loads, it does a system-wide scan of scsi and IDE buses to find all available burners in the system.

As the OP's query was regarding the DeepBurner software, I suggested he look for the option that shuts down the PC when it's finished. It may be that setting that needs to be modified to prevent his problem.

    Cheers!
