Hello everyone, first post here.

I am searching for a USB TV tuner that I will primarily use in America, but I which will also function in Japan. The tuner I really want is the Leadtek WinFast TV II USB Deluxe. I want to buy the device in America during an upcoming trip home but I cannot yet figure out if the device will be functional out here in Japan.

I know that both countries use NTSC but that there are some differences and I do not quite understand those differences. (What is NTSC-J? What is NTSC-M?) Leadtek mentions on their website that the EPG ( Electronic Programming Guide) works for USA and Japan, but I don't know what that means in terms of a product bought from the US store but used in Japan.

What their site does not list as a feature for the Winfast TV II USB Deluxe -- although it does mention it for the WinFast WalkieTV -- is support for "worldwide TV audio." Specifically, the features for the WalkieTV notes support for EIAJ, which seems to stand for Electronic Industries Association of Japan. EIAJ is also mentioned in the features for the WinFast PalmTop TV. I am hesitant about the Walkie or the PalmTop, mainly because the devices themselves as well as information regarding them seem somewhat tough to find.

I really want to buy a US product since that is where I will be from July on. But a big part of my reason for wanting to buy a capture card is to grab some of the interesting TV clips while I'm out here, so what I buy I really need to work in Japan. The WinFast TV II USB Deluxe seems like a good card, I just want to make sure it'll work out here first. Other cards I've looked at include the Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2, but I also can't figure out whether or not that will fully work in Japan. Please help me, onegaishimasu.

Thank you, Strike
