This happened yesterday ... and it was reported twice on television along with photos/video taken at the scene. But for some odd reason, neither the local area newspaper or ANY of the TV stations have the story on their websites. A very short and not completely revealing version of the story was published on the website of one local radio station:

Here's the whole scenario as it was given on TV. Local sheriffs noticed a guy making a drug deal out of his car. They followed him with their lights flashing. He tossed some drugs out the window (the cops saw it) and they later caught him and recovered the drugs (cocaine). Then, they got a warrant to search his apartment for more drugs. During the search, they found more drugs (he's likely a dealer) and money. But as soon as they opened the door to his apartment, the deputies jaws dropped.
His living room area was filled with computer and video camera equipment. And, they found boxes of "homemade" DVD copies of first run films, some not yet released on DVD, all with professional looking covers on the DVD boxes. In short, not only was the guy a drug dealer, he was a major pirate - selling bootleg DVDs that (I saw them on TV) look very well done. The story was too brief to mention all they siezed. But, the cop said it was obvious he was taking "cam" type rips of movies at theaters as well as doing "rent-and-rip" DVDs. But, the TV news did show deputies hauling out computer after computer ... and saying that besides the local charges, he faces Federal charges if any evidence is found on his computers (quite likely, I'd say) that he illegally downloaded movies as well. The guy was also selling pre-packaged software and video games ... all very professional looking. I suspect he didn't do this with a "burner" but rather with a pro "duplicator" of some sort.
In any case, this guy is WAAAAYYYYYyyyyy up the proverbial estuary without a paddle.

well we always knew people that download films are classed as terrorists now -- but now it appears that they are terrorist AND drug dealers

Isnt' that what they always show on New York street corners whenever a blockbuster comes out? They show people buying them on the street side. Apparently some people would pay for poorly dubbed copies rather than go to the theater to watch it in the proper setting or simply wait for the dvd.

The MPAA & RIAA probably had him on their hit list, but I think they are still tied down somewhere in Michigan. :P
Remember kids: Marijuana leads to heavier drugs like cocaine & herroine. Which then leads to harder drugs like crack and meth-emphedimines. Which then leads to illegal downloads & pirating movies. Which leads to getting a** raped by Jack Valenti in Federal prison. -
i'll bet ya he gets more time for the illegal software & dvd's than he does for the drugs.

its all on the perosn, i bet the guy hs a record and all his profits went into either organised crime or drugs, the law works different on differnet people, i bet if they found a middle aged family guy with sellingfake movies he would no-weay get in that amount of trouble
int eh u.k there is a show on about undercover cops just doing their daily routine arresting people and stuff, anyway the whole episode were people commiting bad crimes like assualt and stuff, they got let of with cautions and small fines, this one guy, a bum who was a crack addict, he stole some mouthwash and showergells and stuiff to sell from a chemist, he got 6 months in prison, jaiuls are so over pack and its so expensive to send people to jail that its all about who the person is rather than the crime, aslong as its not rape or murder, mit is only the crimes like shopelifting andminor drugs and such when its all on the person
