  1. I see that this recorder should be able to support these features

    PAL recording
    100V~230V, 50/60Hz

one more question... Is there any indication that it has PAL tuner too ?

--edit. i mixed cyberhome and liteon info. sorry for confusion--

Yes, that's what manual tells. But I can't verify though because I don't have any PAL source.

  6. I thought the newest firmware allowed macrovision bypass (1135?) but I updated to 1141 and no luck. Anyone with any new hacks?

Hi I am new in this forum, but been owning LVW-5001 for about 3 weeks. during this 3 weeks, I have been reporting more then 8 defects to LITEON, they fix 5 out of 9, another 3 is limitation

    Limitation
    1) Close caption message playback mess up
    2) Not able to perform VBR recording, they are currently using CVBR
    3) DV input still has bugs which will create coasters
    Fix
for fix I just add a comment into the unit in this forum, thanks

    Full format vs background format.

LVW-5001 only perform quick format, and will perform background format before write data into the media,
but IF perform Full format before start recording, then during video recording , the DVD+RW does not need to perform background once again while recording
Also if the dvd+rw disc has been fully used before, no need to perfrom full format again.

Just perfrom full format to new DVD+RW one time only , then background format is not necessary while recoding video to the media.
    For more info , read

BY the way, I think LVW-5001 able to perform FULL format in 15 minutes because DDW-441s is a 4x dvd burner!!

To full format to new DVD+RW media, I think I gain reailable recording all the way to disk full and I should not see "disk write fail" message , I hope

About disc fail message on Lvw-5001,

I remember when I still own a Panasonic dvd recorder with DMR-E80H with 80GB harddisk , if error recording to cheap bad DVD-R media, the Panasonic will reboot itself. Compare to LVW-5001 , it will report disk fail. so which way do you like?? reboot the machine without telling you what is going on , or report disc fail message on the front panel??

If anyone read LVW-5001 post in dvdplusrw.org (currently down).

One time I report build in TV tuner is not clear in build 1141, it turn out not clear during recording TV show, but playback wil so clear, I will post another VOB file into my folder tomorrow

Another time I report the last chapter not able to playback correctly with firmware 1129, it fixed in 1141.

The only thing need to be fix is DV to DVD recording sometime still create coasters on DVD+R.

if coasters created on DVD+RW media , I think we can still recover the disc if we have computer dvd burner

  15. My LiteOn LVW5001A has developed serious reliability issues after only a month of use. I can no longer playback *any* DVDs including those recorded on the unit.

    The unit reports "No disc."

Obviously, I cannot update the firmware - as the unit will not recognize any CD or DVD. (Questionable a firmware update would solve this problem anyway.)

"Turn on, turn off" does not reset the unit either.

If any owners have run into this problem, please advise.

  16. Smartblue,
Have you noticed the clock in the Liteon doesn't seem to be sync'd to any external reference. Seems to be internal. No auto clock set. My clock deviates from my 100% accurate VCR on same cable by at least 1 or 2 seconds each day. 50 seconds in 3 weeks. Have you noticed the same? I'm surprised there is no auto clock set and reference circuit.

    Hi Mike2000:
I just sync the clock with www.time.gov , give me a day to check how many second off

  18. OK on that SMARTBLUE. I'll check back in a day. Try it though over a few days without resetting. I don't get that Liteon would not include circuitry to sync to an external clock over the cable like all modern VCR's. All the VCRs do that these days. PS - I've noticed dvdplusRW forum has been down for a day.
