  1. I recently shrunk down Star War EP3 onto a single layer disc (movie only), using DVD Remaster, and burnt it with Toast 7.

Playing it back on my standalone dvd player is tough in the second half of the movie, with blocks and pauses etc that you would normally attribute to a dirty disc or whatever. Obviously the disc surface is in immaculate shape.

The movie plays back perfectly in my Mac (mini).

Is this an indication of my player dying, or is it just 'one of those things' like incompatible/ unreliable media (maxell fyi) or something?

    it could be either really.
What type of dvd player do you have. I use to get that when i bought those cheap apex or walmart 30 dollar dvd players.

if it plays fine in the mac but not on your standalone it hints to your standalone as the problem

  3. I have a JVC player. Not expensive, but not a no name walmart job either...

I am wondering if it's the media. I just tried another disc (and another movie) using the same media... same issue. they start off fine, but won't play latter stages of the movie, but work fine in my mac.

I wonder if my mac is super tolerant for the media I am using, but my standalone isn't? is that plausible? I mentioned it was maxell media, but it was one of those $10 for a spindle of 25 deals...

Sounds like a media problem to me. I use nothing but Taiyo Yuden, now. I did have your type of problem until I started to use TY all the time.

When I used Popcorn, I had that problem. I use MTR, then DVD2oneX 1.4.2 and burn with Toast7. No more problems at all.

  5. At least I can try it out I suppose. I can plausibly do a copy from my previous burns on to supposedly superior media, and see if it does the trick.

You mention problems with Popcorn, which I presume is the technology driving Toast 7 now. Did you have problems even with your TY discs?

  6. I would also say media problem. I have over 300 + burns using Verbatim and have had very good luck.

Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion.

I don't have the problem for 2 reasons, 1) TY media and 2) I compress with DVD2oneX not Popcorn or Toast 7.

I just do movie only. Less compression means better quality in the picture.
