I was goofing around with those internet kits showing how to convert your tv into a 100ft projection tv. I got one of those magnifying sheets for reading and made a crude box to cover a tv.
IT ACTUALLY WORKED! Well almost. The video was upside down but my 21inch tv projected on to the opposite wall and was larger than the wall! But it was really hard to get it focused because I didn't have the distance right.
I tried again tongiht with a little ten inch tv. I got the distance close and hooked it up. It was great! I even set up a mirror that could pivot and tilted it so that it reflected on the wall right side up! It was great.
My only problem was the box didn't cover the set so there was light gaps. But in principle I've worked out from the various guides on the internet.
It didn't cost me anything yet because I already had the magnifying lens laying around and I used old cardboard for the boxes.
Pretty neat if you've got some time to kill and the right parts. Also it doesn't work well on really dark scenes and you need a solid color wall to project against so you can see it clearly. ---- also you need to do it after the sun goes down or in a room with no windows - any light will kill it.
If anyone has a completed project and would like to post pictures and or video clips of it in action please do. Maybe next time I'll post some pics of my incomplete setup.

I have seen things like that for years but never messed with it.
And set your tv upside down then you get the projection on the wall right side up and don't have to bounce off mirrors or whatever 8)
And stretch a white sheet tight on the wall and tack it up. -
Yoda, some of those kits suggest a wiring modification to flip the picture. If you attempt to make this mod, be very careful as there is enough voltage/current to do some serious damage. It could even kill you.

Ok here's a video clip I made of it. Its 3 minutes and 7.5mb (divx 6).
It's pretty dark but you get some idea of it. It actually projects it against the opposite wall. Pretty amazing now if I can only get it focused properly.

Oh man that is so ghetto. It looks like it was made by Ralph Wiggum.
Aren't you supposed to use LCDs for this because it seems like you are going to get some strange curvatures because of the beveled screen and you'll probably lose picture on the edges too? And aren't you also supposed to use a light bulb in the box to brighten the picture? I'm sure the picture is big but damn it can't really be decent quality can it? -
Well its half decent for putting no money in it. I could try it with my pc monitor. Its "essentially flat" and that might project better.

Wouldn't this work better with an LCD so you could crank up the brightness from the Original screen? Or am I missing something?

again, why wouldn't someone just flip the TV?
Has someone actually done this mod and why did they do it? If someone thinks it looks silly then surely the box looks even sillier?.
saying that Yoda didn't flip his TV when it didn't work :P though I'm not sure he would have done the mod if it was in the 'de'sctructions -

Also I ripped a chapter off a dvd and flipped the video in virtualdub and reauthored it. It worked just fine.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -

you should have went here Yoda -
Did you cut the cardboard with a dull table knife? That may be the most crude cardboard box fabrication job I've seen.
You may want to try building a refraction setup. Then put your tv inside this setup. That way you can move the forward-most box in and out to focus and eliminate light loss. -
yea something like this looks real spiffy in the rec room

he is using a tft lcd panel - removed from its case -- 1600 x 1200 resolution -- and using a overhead projector as a light source .. plus that is a HTPC next to it ,,,
