  1. I have OTA recordings that were made with snapstream 4.1 and the avermedia 180 OTA card. Is there a guide on how to convert these to a much smaller WM9 HD stream or even just to a regular WM9 files (not HD)?

I've tried Windows Media Encoder but all I get is black output.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm surprised it didn't work. I thought snapstream used pretty standard video. Mpeg I thought.

Have you considered Divx or Xvid instead of WMV?

  3. My company is strictly Micro$oft and I need to use WMV (political reasons)...I know...it sucks...but there is no way to get these MPG files to show up in WMencoder.

Window Media encoder really hates mpeg files and prefers DV avi. I use Procoder Express to convert mpeg to WMV or WMV HD. You do realize that your caps are not HD anymore right?

Also, you can try using VirtualdubMod. Load the mpeg file in and then go into the video compression and select WMV9 codec. From there you should be able to specify bitrate and so on.....

One last thing, converting anything to WMV takes a long time! and will completely consume the cpu.

  5. Thanks bits. Yes, I do know I am losing the HD, but it still looks amazing. I've converted Xvid/DivX clips of LOST in WMencoder and the quality is still quite impressive for low resolutions and standard ED monitors. All of out LCDs in the compnay are ED 480p, so it will still look quite nice over the network

    Thank you!
