I did a few DL burns for the first time using Verbatim +R DL discs, and to my surprise they played flawlessly on my 5 year old Panasonic stand alone DVD player which does not recognize DVD +R SL (but will play –R SL.)

The thing is my PC would not play it, either saying there is no disc, or Power DVD not playing it and returning this message:

    “Error code 89030000
    Unknown file format.”

When trying it in my LG burner drive connected to the PC however, it will play.

I’m using pgcedit and imgburn following these instructions:

    https://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/third_party/blutach/Burning%20With%20PgcEdit.htm

Burner: external LG GSA 2166D 1.0 via USB 2

    Burned disc speed: 4X

PC: Dell Optiplex GX270 1 gig ram

Media: Verbatim DVD+R DL. The label says 2.4 speed, but also says up to 8x w/ compatible drives.

Can anyone tell me why my PC’s internal DVD-ROM drive does not play the DL burns, but my stand alone player and LG burner will? (And what could the fix be?)

Your internal DVD ROM may not have the firmware to recognize them, but I'm only guessing. My DLs play on both the burner and the DVD ROM and on a Sony DVD player with no problems. I just used DVD Decrypter to back them up so far; ISO read/ISO write.

    Hmmm, maybe that 's it.

Yeah, I've done it that way to. What are you burning the image with?

On that computer I have a Sony DW-Q28A burner and a Sony DDU1615 DVD ROM. On another I have a Benq 1640 burner and a Toshiba SD1212 DVD ROM, they work as well.

My bad. I see you're writing w/ DVDD. I was told it's better to use imgburn. That's what I'm using.

I do it that way also & i have noticed one of my 6 dvd-rom drives does not like +R at all unless it is booktyped to DVD-ROM, but it's a pretty old drive.

Some older DVD-ROMs do not support DL discs.
