  1. Presuming that the Liteon DVD Rom drive can scan properly using the Nero Scandisk to check disks?

The Verbatim 16X - R burned in the Pioneer 531h tend to show errors when I run nero's Scandisk on them in the Liteon drive.

Whereas the Sony 8X -R show 100% Good in the same drive and recorder.

Obviously I am using the Sony's in this recorder now.

The Question is I understand tha the Verbatim are supposed to be top drawer media.

Do you think it is the fact that the Pioneer is probably buirning them at 16X that is the problem? or what?

    Many Thanks

DVD recorders can be more picky about the media that is used in them. For starters, they record at 1X because they are recording an input that itself is at 1X speed. Some media just doesn't perform as well at 1X recording speeds. I have a LiteOn 5005 recorder. For whatever reason, it works much better with +R media. It also really likes +RW media. I usually record using +RW media and if it is something that I want to keep, I transfer it to another disc on my computer. Once you find a brand of media that works well in a recorder, it's best to stick with it. In any case, there is no advantage to using 16X media in a recorder because you are limited to 1X recording speed. You are just spending more money for the faster media.

  3. SCDVD, This one will record at up to 16X and that may be the problem?

the Sony 8X take about 10 minutes including finalizing to record form the hard drive.

It is possible that your 5005 doesn't have a hard drive? and thus you are correct that it is recording at 1X, My first DVD recorder recorded at 1X as it was not equipped with a hard drive.

    Cheers
