Three of my latest DVD+R burns on my old Pioneer 106D seem to go fine until it starts writing the leadout, then it fails with some kind of error. It's done the same thing on 3 +R discs (two 8x TY's burned at 4x and one 4x CMC burned at 2.4x) all failed at the same point just when it starts writing the leadout. I've used 2 different apps to burn with. Yet strangely I've used Ricoh JPN 4x +R and they are having no such problem. What would cause this at the same point on 3 different discs. I'm afraid to try any more until I figure this one out. Haven't burned any -R lately so I don't know if this is limited to just certain +R or what.

Has firmware been updated? Updating firmware to latest version would be the first thing I'd do if not already done. Suggest using some RW discs to avoid wasting more discs until problems are resolved.

  3. Pioneer (till 107D) is very tolerent in following the track and focussing even on poor quality media and normally would not give up. Most likely, the medias which are failing have really bad tracks near the outer edge of the disks, where the lead out is failing.
Or, maybe, the track length is not enough. You can try verifying this by reducing the data volume, i.e. try writing, say 4.2GB instead of full 4.38GB(the limit) on the problematic media and see if you still have the same difficulty.
How old is your 106D? Maybe the screw driving the laser sled has accumulated some dirt/lint and needs cleaning / lubrication - for details on how to do it, try rpc1.org forum.

I don't know if it's fixed yet. I haven't burned any video discs lately. No problem burning data discs. Nero indicated the ASPI drivers were mismatched so I updated them, though this hasn't given any problems previously. Maybe it was just some fluke thing that corrected itself when the computer was restarted. Guess I'll find out when I burn my next video DVD.
