I bought a 50 pac +R of these to try and wasn't very happy with them.
When I would burn them at 16x the pie would start climbing at about 3.5 GB and peak at about 4 GB, the drop again.
Some of these peaks would be as high as 400 pie and not play through the peaks.
There would also be several pif splkes at about the same section of the discs.
When I burned some of them at 8x the quality test results yielded similar to a regular 8x Verbatim and at 6x they were at thier best.
I probably won't buy any more of them.

These are some of the best media, MCC discs.
Daresay even better then TY, depending on circumstances.

For the best quality burns, do 8x or 12x on 16x discs. This goes for pretty much any 16x media, not just MCC. Yes, that includes TY too.

  9. MCC from Taiwan is NOT the same as MCC from Japan,I used to buy Verbatim DLP "made in Japan" and they worked great.
But if they work for you that's great.

  10. Great media. But BB, they sold 50 packs for $14.99 recently, so you save just a penny..... meritline did have 100 packs for $10AR a couple weeks back.

There is no MCC from Japan, at least not since the 2x days. Any Verbatim media 4x or higher that is made in Japan is Taiyo Yuden branded as Verbatim. That said, the MCC discs made in Taiwan are good stuff. Sure you may run into a bad batch here and there, but that goes for all manufacturers, even TY.

I am very anal about the type of blank DVD-R discs that I use. In the past I have only used the "Made In Japan" MAXELL DVD-R discs or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R discs.

Lately though I've gone through a lot of these Verbatim 16x DVD-R discs with media code MCC 03RG20. I like them because they are dirt cheap (when on sale which seems to be often) and most importantly they work extremely well.

I have a Pioneer DVR-108 and burn at 4x (if multitasking) or 6x (if not using the computer when burning) and my burns are excellent quality. I have some transcoded discs that have gone up to 4400MB in size (I like to restrict transcoders to that size) and yes I have watched them and there are no problems in playback.

In fact here is one I burned just today ... this was a dual layer commercial DVD that I ran through DVDShrink using 4400MB as a custom size. Below are results from NERO CD-DVD TEST

I haven't watched this particular back-up yet but like I said I've done many back-ups at 4400MB and watched them with no issues. My main DVD player these days is the Pioneer DVR-531H-s

  13. I personally notice the best burns with this 16x media at 12x. And their 8x media burns best for me at 8x. That's all I really use anymore since they are always a great deal at Sam's. My only coaster was from a new but defective burner that I just sent back.
