  1. Hi, I have a Leadtek WinFast TV USB II Deluxe. Recently I post* a question about capturing (with USB2), but I couldn't solve the resolution/quality problem because USB2 limitation. I can't use FireWire because I don't have it.

My Leadtek has S-Video and my laptop too. Can I get a better capture if I get (buy) a S-Video - S-Video cable

    It'll be: Video8 > Leadtek (S-Video) > (S-Video) Laptop

    You mean
    Video8 > (S-Video) > Leadtek > (USB2) >Laptop
    Right?

A S-Video cable will improve your camcorder to Leadtek video quality.

How do you plan to store these 10 hours of 8mm video?
Did you get that DVD burner?

MPeg2 for DVD could be captured/encoded at 720x480 or 352x480 (if supported on that box). 352x480 at 3100 Kb/s (medium quality) would fit about 3 hours to a DVD and consume 4.3 GB of your drive space.

Disk space for DVD authoring would require about 18GB space.

    Hi, I mean

Cable to S-Video to S-Video (something like that)
    or... Video8 > (S-Video) > Leadtek > (S-Video) >Laptop

    - Video8 (tv cable)
    - Leadtek (S-Video)
    - Toshiba laptop (S-Video)

Now I think my S-Video laptop is only Out and no In. So that solve my unsolve problem

The problem, my laptop doesn't capture (AVI, 640x480) well because USB is not the best option, start to down the speed and/or freeze the image at some point. I'll have to wait for a FireWire solution.

    Note: I don't have DVD-R yet. Only for hard-drive (60 GB + 40GB), DivX.

    Thanks edTV

S-Video on the laptop is an out not an in.

Are you saying you don't have USB2 on the notebook? You will need that for anything over 320x240/288 CIF.

    Get a USB2 PC-card.

That is why you need an external device that handles the encoding (compression) in hardware. If the PC card can't handle uncompressed capture on your laptop (not surprising), then you need an external compression option or just forget about generic laptops.
