    1.4Ghz Celeron-M w/ 1MB L2 Cache.
    1.4Ghz Pentium-M w/ 1MB L2 Cache.

Any difference? Which would you say is better?

For just plain office stuff - word, powerpoint - very little difference. For anything requiring grunt - video processing, graphics etc - Pentium-M, hands down.

According a TheScreenSavers telecast before that show was dropped by G4 TV there's no practical difference between the Celeron and Pentium for most applications, but the Pentium has more precise decimal point calculation and therefore more accurate for CAD or other programs involving mathmatical calculations.

But why? Both are the same speed and both have the same amount of L2 cache.

See my link, The full specs are at www.intel.com but at 1.4GHz it looks like the Pentium M 710 and 738 have 2MB L2. Maybe you are looking at a legacy chip. Both 1.4GHz Pentium M's are 400 MHz FSB so no difference there.

L2 Cache is more important for repetitive tasks like database or games and less important for video encoding, transcoding and effects processing since data isn't reused. Hyperthreading would make a difference but that isn't available in a M at 1.4GHz.

Looking at the spec sheet I don't see any other differences than L2, FSB and HT but I may have missed something.
