  1. I just went through my entire collection of old homemade videotapes, which I plan to convert to dvd. I found a handful of commercial Betamax movies in with them. Does anyone know of a popular website where I can sell these? I know there's Ebay, but other Betamax movies don't seem to be selling very well there, so I was hoping maybe there's a more popular specialty website.

If the price on eBay is low, then I suggest that is probably the best you are going to see, especially if the titles are available on newer formats.

Betamax players haven't been built in what, 20 years? No wonder these tapes don't sell.

  4. Yeah, I'd say 20 years is an accurate estimate. But I figured if there are those who collect 8mm films due to their being out of print & considered "collectible", then maybe there would be some folks who view the Betamax the same way. Heh, maybe I need to wait another 20 years & then they'll be worth something.

Well, I see that 1993 was the last year for the US market (the only market that really matters). So, I guess that I was 7 years off.

There was a VHS/Beta/Laserdisc/CED disc shop near me that I would frequent. Unfortunately they recently closed their doors after many many years. Another sad day in video rental history.

There is a fantastic shop in Troy Michigan that rents everything called Thomas Video. You might look them up maybe they would buy old Beta tapes. I know they have tons of old rental tapes for sale.
