I have replaced two DVD RW Drives D and E with the new ones. I believe the connection is correct. The Drives could be opened by pressing the open button. So it has been powered. But, I could not see the Drive D and E letters but only the Drive A and C from My Computer after the replacement of the DVD Drives. As a result, I am unable to run the DVD movie from the DVD Drive. The AnyDVD software also popped up “Cannot detect the DVD Drive.” The problem is I did install the DVD drives but could not locate them after the installation. Do you know how to detect the Drive D and E? My OS is Windows XP Professional Edition with the SP2. Thank you for your answer.

Are they showing up in BIOS?

Have you set the jumpers properly to Slave and Master as needed?

Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management. Do they show up here?

Uninstall the IDE controllers for the channel that they are on in Device Manager, reboot and see if they show up.

And make sure both ends of the IDE cables are plugged in properly.

my experience was almost the same as your's on a machine i repo'd from a guy. i did a cleanup of all his stuff then dicovered the optical drivers were not list in my computer or device manager.

be really careful if you have to edit the registry though.

Check to be sure DVD drive cable is connected to mobo. Another post I saw the user had unwittingly unplugged the mobo cable.
