Memorex is crap media. Please don't ever buy it again. It's not worth saving the money. Take a look at
    http://www.nomorecoasters.com
for good media. Verbatim makes very good DVD-R media as does Taiyo Yuden and some other companies.
Where I live, DVD-R is not necessarily cheaper than DVD+R. If that's the case for you, you might try mail ordering your media to save even more money.
    http://www.newegg.com
    is a good source.

Most online sources giving away or selling burned DVD media use the cheapest media and bargain basement tools in creation. It's the way they keep their costs down and profits up.

My suggestion would be to only buy pressed media online and never buy burned media.

It could be bad media (different batch or production company) or your burner. Not all burners work with all media. You could try updating the firmware of your burner and see if that helps. But I personally would try a different media such as TY.

Also, what is not made clear is, how do you know at what speed she actually burned her 16x's, and what speed did you burn yours at ? Big difference. If she burned them at 4x she would probably have great results, however if you burned your same media at max rating (which you should not do) you will probably have different results.
Lately, I burn maxell dvd+r 8x's and get coasters if I burn at 8x, and if I burn them at 4x they turn out fine. So what speed are you burning at ?

since gaining 16x speed I do not burn at any speed less than that unless I happen upon 8x media. I'd never burn at a slower speed than the media is rated for. I never have problem reading back the data burned to 16x discs.

Yes, but judging by many other posts on this site, there IS a difference in quality, ofcourse depending on equipment etc. And this could be the answer to Nikkio3000's problem.

Aha ! If you didn't notice then it may automatically kick into max burning speed on its own. Before clicking on 'burn' notice the speed readout, and drop it to 4x (playing it safe). Let us know how it goes.

You also have to keep in mind the actual burner. Not all burners perform the same, even with the same media.

The point is, regardless of what someone else has done with a specific media, you have to find out which brand/type of media works best on your hardware (burner AND standalone).
