  1. hello, I burned a VIDEO_TS file on to DVd using Toast 6.01. In fact I burned several DVD's, following various tips I'd picked up here. The resultant DVD plays fine in my ibook (OSX 10.3.9) but in my Sony player, it doesn't flow...images are frozen, like watching a series of photos. Sound is fine though. I previously burned similar DVD files with no problem. Am using Memorex DVD+R 1X-4X burned at 4X.

Any hints on what might be wrong? Thanks in advance.

STF and see how many of us have complained that Memorex
    media is CRAP.
ST DVD Media link on the left and see
how poorly we rate Memorex media.

Your best bet at this point is go get a spindle of QUALITY DVD-Rs,
such as the TDK's on sale at Circuit City this week,
or Tayio Uden or Sony, or Maxell branded media,
and try to re-rip/ re-burn one of your movies again.
Test the new quality media in your Sony Player.
    Media does make a diffrence.

    Followup:
Please also post back after you have done the re-burn.

Since you say it has worked before, we can possibly
rule out the burning speed and the WAY you are
authoring the discs, but not 100%.

More than likely though, it is the media....

The "plus" persuasion is generally a bad idea for single
layer DVDs. A lot of players don't recognize it -- as you
    have noticed.

  5. thanks for the info so far. I will very soon make another attempt using a "-" DVD. Curious thing is though I've had no problems at all up till now with these Memorex plus DVDs on this same recorder. And I did try reducing the recording speed once for exactly the same bad result. I'll keep in touch.

I only use the Verbatim DVD-R after some successes and failures with other brands.
In Toast you can go to Recorder>>Disc Info... to find out exactly who made the DVD or CD, then click on the 'more info' button (will take you to the DVD Media section of this website) to get the complete poop on the media. Memorex is always one of the crappé ones.
