  1. I did a search for this here but found nada. Does anyone know a site to get affordable Stock Video? Most sites i've visited are horribly expensive for the shortest clips(like a few hundred dollars). Any thoughts welcome.

Did you try a Google search for 'free video clips' ? Most of the pay sites have copyrighted video, one reason they charge for them, and that may also limit how you can use them.

  4. re: Canadateck, i'm just looking for random clips of things like city streets moving, subways, factories working so I can tweak these clips as part of a music video. Nothing big like muchmusic, just something for my website and other music portals.

archive.org has some great stuff. Most of what they have is public domain.

yeah Archive is great, however i'm looking for something where i can pay a little bit of money and get exactly what i'm looking for. with Archive you'd always have some guilt complex afterwards. thanks though.

    Why ? It's all legal.

I don't know of any cheap royalty free video houses (of course, cheap is relative). But I think Redwudz' Google advice is your best bet.

  8. yes the Google advice is good especially since they have Google Video now(not sure if he was referring to that specific search portal), however there's a lot of stuff on google video that's actually not copyright approved(clips from games, tv shows). i typically don't like going to general free sites out of uncertainty if they even cleared copyrights.

the reason i've been frustrated with stock video is one can get a stock video for a dollar, a stock music track for cheap but why does stock video have to cost 300 dollars per second?

I believe he meant to google for companies that supply royalty free video clips, not to find clips themselves. As for Archive.Org, it is probably the single safest site to get public domain footage from.

As for the cost. I guess it is driven by the market, and the number of suppliers. There are a lot more budding musos out there producing generic tracks that msuic can be cheap. On the otherhand, how many budding videographers are there with high quality cameras and the skills to produce decent stock footage ? Also, the overheads for shooting some of this footage is much higher than some guy sitting at his PC with fruityLoops in front of him.
