I have a bit of a weird problem I was hoping someone could help me out with. I normally use diko to do most of my avi to dvd conversions so I thought I would use it to convert some of my home videos. The problem is this. If I plug my original dv file into diko everything goes fine. However if I do any editing or cutting with vdub before I plug it into diko I run into issues. Diko will no longer read the correct length of each new edited file and it cuts the audio of each file off at 9 minutes and 22 seconds every time no matter how long it is. I know the issue has to be coming from vdub but what could the problem be. I use vdub with all my avi's with not one problem. Is it possibly a codec problem. I currently have the sony dv codec installed that came with my cam. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi magnus,
When you're saving the AVI that's been edited in Vdub, are you setting it to use a DV codec?
If so, which one? The Panasonic DV Codec (free) is good and is recommended with VirtualDub.
If not, you're probably getting uncompressed AVI - and Diko might be spitting its dummy out over that. Just a guess...There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

I have the same problem when taking a VDub edited DV-AVI into Ulead Visual Studio 6. I use the Panasonic DV codec. I was never able to figure out the cause and the only work around I found was to save the AVI into small segments (9 minutes each) and then add them all into the timeline in UVS6. If I remember correctly, UVS6 works best with Type1 DV-AVI and that VDub outputs Type2 so there may be something in the Type2 that UVS6 (and Diko) has trouble with. That was part of the reason I started learning AviSynth.

I thinks it's more than just a type issue, (at least for me). If I capsfer directly to Type2, then UVS6 sees it all no problem. It's only after editing in VDub that the problem appears.
Edit: I just always assumed that it was because my UVS is old."Shut up Wesley!" -- Captain Jean-Luc Picard
