    Hi,
I have same question. I've read throught this topic, but I am still confused. Are we talking about convert from AVI to DVD first and then burn to DVD disk?
I have a player can play Xvid format file, do I still need to convert it to DVD? os I can burn the AVI file directly to DVD disk?
I've tried to use nero load the avi file, but the 150 MB file turns to over 1 GB, is that sounds right?
If I load it into Data DVD format the size is ok, but it is right way to do it?
    I am new, please help

No. Use Nero Burning ROM's DVD-ROM (ISO) template, with No Multisession. Drag your Xvid AVI files to the compilation window. Burn.

  3. For burning to DVD-R as normal computer files playable on computer, best to use ISO-UDF and not ISO Template. In NERO Burning Rom, the templete is next to the UDF Template.

But regarding saving as a DVD_Video, it may still be possible to save in MPEG-1 VBR and get a reasonable quality for the Video. Save the audio in 128Kbps MP2 or AC3(2 channel).

ok. I got nero burning rom now.
    question:
    1) when add avi files into the compillation window does it burn in the order of the files list -- whioch means if I want to play in a certain order of the file I will need to change the file name so that it can be the same order I wanted? (Nero sort the file name by alphabetic order)
    2) what does "NO multisession" means? where I can find this option
    3) If I want to play it in my dvd player not computer
which format is best to use? ("it may still be possible to save in MPEG-1 VBR" -- how to do it? I'll nee to convert it first right?)

    Thanks

Even if you could get them out of order in Nero, the Divx/DVD player may sort them. It's best to rename them in the compilation window (right click on a filename and select Rename). So instead of:

    MovieA.AVI
    MovieB.AVI
    MovieC.AVI

rename them with numbers in the order you want them:

    01_MovieB.AVI
    02_MovieC.AVI
    03_MovieA.AVI

"No Multisession" is selected on the Wizard where you selected DVD-ROM ISO. You can also get to it from File -> Compilation Properties, selecting the Multisession tab, and marking the No Multisession radio button.

In short, since any particular location on a DVD-R or DVD+R can only be written once, multisession recording was devised to let you add files at later dates. It's like writing chapters one at a time (a session) to a book and never writing anything in the table of contents. Then when your done writing the book you finalize it by writing the table of contents. Selecting No Multisession causes everything to be in a single session and the table of contents is written (you won't be able to add more files to the disk in the future). Most Divx/DVD players can't read unfinalized (no TOC) disks or disks with more than one session.

The whole point of having a Divx/DVD player is to avoid having to convert Divx/Xvid/MPEG4 files to DVD or VCD spec. It's best to leave your files in the format they're in. Each time you convert a file from one lossy format to another you will lose quality and waste time.
