I don't know about you guys in the States but here in Oz TDK has introduced an Armor Plated with anti-uv protection DVD-R. It says that it is 100 times more scratch resistent.
They cost about $6.30 AUD per disc, as compared to $1.00 to $2.50 for normal DVD blanks.
Has anyone else used these or something similar?

This has been discussed a couple of times before, so search for details. I use them to archive special projects - birthdays and personal events. I wouldn't bother using them for backups at the prices they charge. When I first used them they were closer to AU$10 a disc.

Also, if you are paying AU$1 - 2.50 for normal blank media you are getting ripped off. For spindles you should be paying around 50 - 70 cents per disc (AU$26 - 37 per 50 disc spindle). For inividual cases you will pay a premium - one not worth it in my opinion. I buy cheap cases in bulk to go with the spindles and still spend a lot less than you appear to be spending.

I don't buy spindles, the disc's are prone to be dusty and scratched which is the last thing you need before you burn.
I prefer Japanese made TDK 10 pack $13.00 a box.
Why burn with cheap unreliable CD-R?

I have a couple of decent plastic spindle cases. My spindles are never dusty or scratched. I don't use cheap crap, it's just that spindles are cheaper than single pack discs. I have a 100% burn success rate and all are still working.

ote]I prefer Japanese made TDK 10 pack $13.00 a box. [/quote]I recently had a bad batch of TDK CD-R. They were on the shelf for a year or so before using but 6 out of 10 were DOA. They would not burn or scan. No obvious physical defects or blimishes. Go figure.

  6. well, as far as thats concerned, was the shelf exposed to direct sunlight? if so, that very well could be your answer.....but yea, i'd have to say ive had VERY few problems with spindles...the only issues ive ever had were when my burner was starting to die out on me..........on a side note, i recently picked up a 3 pack of verbatim dual layer discs and one of the 3 was a coaster...33 percent failure rate and that was obviously NOT in a spindle...so there's some food for thought.
