  1. Hi there! I am hoping somebody might be able help me with a bit of a mystery. Two weeks ago my uncle purchased a new DVR-110. It has been working great ......until today that is. He called in a panic saying it won't work. I went over and tested it. The darn thing works great for ripping and burning DVD's but CD's are a different story. He had been burning both cd's and dvd's without any problem but now the cd burning has quit working all together. The drive won't recognize the cd's when inserted. While using Nero it has an error message saying unable to initialize device. I thought he might of accidently change the drive setting in Nero so I tried to other software options for burning cd's (Roxio & WMP). Same results! I find it very odd that burning dvd's works perfectly and the cd's just failed. Does the drive possibly have two seperate lasers? One for each type of media? If so, maybe the cd laser is cooked.

    Any ideas????????

Since you say your uncle only purchased it 2 weeks ago then he should be able to return it.

Even if he has to pay return shipping I would still return it as defective and get a new one.

  3. Yes, he will be returning the unit. I was hoping to find out what might have possibly caused this to happen. Any ideas?
