  2. If i get it correctly. You want to compare High-Def Footage, Standard-Def footage and DVD-R footage of the same clip.

    A few things:

    1. The current DVD format does not allow HD footage, thus HD-DVD is coming out later this year.
    2. If you only want to compare 5minutes of footage, then there would be no difference between a Standard DVD and DVD-R, as no compression would be necessary.

    Does that answer the questions?

oh yeah, i understand you meant that 5mins so i wouldnt need to compress, i only meant 5mins of hd quality because it is too big to put a whole film on, i would have the whole film of the dvd and the dvd-r. basically comparing hd quality/dvdquality/dvd-r quality

Ummmmm yes, they have to ATM. A number of people have HTPC setups so that they can watch HD material on their HDTVs, since the DVD spec at present does not support some of the frame sizes used in HD.

That makes no sense whatsoever. There's quite a number of commercial DVDs on 4.7GB discs. And Dual Layer DVDRs are available now.

I love it when NOOBs that don't know shit tell more experienced people that they don't know what they're on about

BTW, you wanna compare all this on that HDTV you haven't bought yet ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

well comparing a dvd to a burned dvd wouldn't show anything different, even if you only did 5 minutes of it as it would still end up at 480p. To answer the question as to why do people download HDTV torrents and burn them well I do it because of the 16x9 ratio more than anything else... I hate pan & scan and to watch a show that I missed with bars I'd rather wait for the box set to be released so if I download the torrent and burn its not HD but its close enough that I can tolerate it.

You will also find that a lot of material available for download from these less than reputable sources are infact well short of HD in resolution and quality, but are labelled HD to indicate that the original source came from a HD broadcast.

If you want to do a simple test, download some true HD res material from the quicktime trailers site.

The only TRUE HD on a DVD was that bonus DVD in Terminator 2 Platinum, I think, and that's only playable on a PC, AFAIK.

Not in DVD Video Format, but in WMV HD, hence why its only playable in a PC. There are others like Taxi 3, Magic of Flight etc..

    Samples can be found at:

  10. I think it is possible to stream high def content using an xbox 360 to a HD Tv. I think the file has to be a wmv file though.

Haven't tried this yet, but I am aware of some people who have done this (or say they have).
