I have a Liteon LVW-5045 HDD/DVD recorder. I’ve had it for just over 6 months. It doesn’t want to record DVD properly now. I’m going to get a CD/DVD cleaner disk and try some new media first but it looks like it may need replacing. I bought it from Watford/Savastore and I assume it’s under warranty. I’m looking for the paperwork. Anyway, I believe the policy is to replace the whole unit and I’ve got a lot on the HDD, about 100 hours, which I would lose. My questions is about copying that. Without a DVD I can only think of 3 ways to do it. (1) Copy to my PC via the composite video output (means a 100 hours of video copying even assuming there are no problems and I will have to offload it to DVD on my PC) (2) Take the HDD out and put it in my PC or (3) Put my PC DVD in it and copy all to DVD.
My questions are
Would the HDD format be recognized by my PC (Windows XP, uses IDE disks (not SATA))?
Would the Liteon accept any old DVD recorded or which one would it need?
Any help or ideas would help
Thanks
