How Come there is no sound on the vcd??

When I encode the avi file to mpeg and burn it as a vcd without subtitles there is sound but when I use ffdshow to add subtitles there is no sound when i play in on my dvd player.. do i need to do something in ffdshow to get ther sound. ??

well, i open up the video decoder configuration then on the side i click subtitles. then it show a screen where i can upload subtitles. so i found the subtitle srt file that i wanted and i double click. and thats all i did on ffdshow. when i encode the file with tmpenc the subtitles appear but no sound.
