    Hi All!

A friend of mine wants to capture from TV to PC.

She has a camcorder JVC GR-D33. Is it possible to capture from TV to camcorder, and then to PC?

Are there TV's with firewire output?

If there are no other solution, she will have to buy a capture card, and that's what I'm avoiding...

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards,
    Joelson.

  2. From what I see, the JVC GR-D33 cam has analog in to tape but not direct pass-thru via firewire.
So, if you have a TV program that is as short as what a DV tape will record you just need to record to tape and then import the tape to the computer.
You will need software (an NLE or DV capture) to import the digitized video and audio.

OK, but I don't think it can record from TV to the cam, as I could see in its specification. Take a look: http://www.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL027121&pathId=26&page=2&archive=true

As I could see, it can just export from cam to TV, but not the opposite. Am I wrong?
    Best regards,
    Joelson.

    Check out page 34

Maybe I am wrong, but you should be able to take the analog from the TV using the A/V cable into the cam and then output to the PC with the firewire

This direct method only works with cams that have the pass-thru feature. My Sony minicam does and if it is a feature of your camera I agree with ZAPPER that this is the best method. You will end up with dv files at about 13 gb per hour.

For some reason the passthru feature on cams tend to get over looked in the manual. I suspect that the manufacturers know but keep it kind of grey. A couple of other problems that I find are that the A/V jack and cable on the cam are not explained well enough in the manual as far as it being bi-directional and the cable needs an official name. I have played with five or six different cams that relatives and coworkers have, and everyone of them does passthru. The trick is sometimes in the settings menu. On some cams (I think) you don't even see any options on the menu for passthru settings until the cam is actually wired up to your Analog source and Firewire. Another thing that has caused me some embarassment is that the fold out veiwfinder/screen on atleast one cam affected the display of the menu. That is the menu on the fold out screen was different on the TV screen when the fold out screen was closed (Did I loose you?) I don't mean that just the font was different, but the arrangement of the setup screen and its options are different.

Video cams are alot like people. Basicly the same but all different and about the time you really get to know one and start to love one..........they die!
