  1. Hello,
I need a little help. A friend just presented me with her collection of karake songs. I don't know jack about karaoke except a lot of really drunk people have a ball trying their best to be the next big star. For every song on her list there is a Mp3 and a .cdg file. I am assuming the .cdg is the visual data for the TV.

Problem is, her machine doesn't play Mp3's. I tried to make an audio cd with Nero but it won't allow the .cdg files to be included in the compilation. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to overcome this?

Oh and before anybody asks, No I don't know the source of the material (purchased or download). I didn't ask.

  2. What kind of machine is she trying to play them on. Standalone or pc and if pc wha operating system. Yes you are right the mp3 is the audio side and cdg is the actual lyrics.

Not my thing, but those files are apparently made to play on a dedicated karaoke standalone player. There are software players, though. Do a Google search for 'freeware software karaoke players' and you should get a few hits.

The .cdg files are the written lyrics. You could play the mp3 audio part on most computers, probably using even WMP. Apparently there are a few karaoke files that are encrypted, at least the .cdg part, to resist copying.

Try one of the software players. You can plug a microphone into your stereo amplifier and party down.

Thanks for the suggestion. But she has a "dedicated stand alone player" and would really like to use it not her computer. There in lies my dilema. Her player doesn't like Mp3's, so I need to find a way to convert her songs to a regular format it will accept.

  6. Your friend's karaoke player probably expects a CD burned to the CD+G specification. There are utilities to rip CD+G to .mp3 and .cdg files for playing with PC based karaoke platers. There are also utilities to burn .mp3 and .cdg files to a CD+G disc.

You can find more info by Googling on CD+G.

  7. Thanks drjtech,
I will have a look. That helps shed some light on a rather dim subject for me.

    Cheers

  8. There's a software where you can rip cd+g to graphic and audio. Then you put the graphic and audio back as MPG(VCD). Not all CD ROM read CD+G but only CD audio. Plextor are known to read CD+G. Once it's in MPG(VCD) format, it could be play in most of DVD player. Expensive brand name such as Sony are very stubborn. When I get home, I see what I have in my conversion file.
