  1. Why are the print-on-disc settings always locked at Best Photo? I don't want to use that much ink when printing on disc I don't like this setting! Has anyone found a workaround or a hack?

I have the epson R300, and it allows me to select any setting on want when printing to dvd. I usually use "photo", and get very good results.

I have the Epson R200 and I can choose any of the 5 printing settings (Draft->Best). Try re-installing the epson cd program from the disc

  4. right but if you go into Advanced settings does it lock at Best Photo for you? Epson's tech support says
"The only supported resolution for CD/DVD printing is 1440 dpi (aka "Photo")"

My guess... is that you have chosen some OTHER option which is buried in those settings that limits you to only choosing the "BEST" quality. If I were you, I would play around with your other settings, to see if this "unlocks" that choice. It may be one of the "Paper Options" settings, for example, or it might even be buried in the "Advanced" mode. Do you have a "Custom setting" that you have created in that "Advanced Area," where this option was defined?

Yes when I go into Advanced mode, select CD/DVD I get one option: Best Photo. is this the same for you?

I didnt clarify that I have the R200. I now realize that each printer might be different for CD printing even though they have the same software.

Do not selcet cd/dvd, select paper or photo gloss paper, or thereabouts. I cant rememeber exactly as I mothballed my r20/r300/r320 in favor of the canon ip5000.

Anyway, selct one of those and then fiddle with the ink saturation n stuff.

wow that's really bizarre. Epson's tips and tricks while printing always say "make sure you chose the right paper medium for best results" or something but here i'm getting advice to not select CD/DVD as my medium?

While it is true what Epson's says, that you will get a better result, u really do not have to do it their way and as you say, you desire to use less ink. Epson makes money and recently makes much more money on the sale of their genuine ink carts that they do the printer.

Yeah, do what I said and u'll be a happy camper.... but dont be too happy, especially if ur camping on brokeback mountain.

  10. ok thanks dude. i think i'm just really confused about the entire Epson software to be honest. I'm also terrified about the day these first ink carts run out. the first run of CDs i printed have looked really nice though i must say.

The phrase "I ran out of ink so I bought a new printer" is not as ridiculous as it sounds.

I also have the R-200 and I can select any print quality I want using the CD/DVD "paper" settiing. There must be something else going on with yours.
