  1. First, apologies if this question has been asked before. I did search before posting without much success.

OK, now to explain this so you can understand

I do not have a dual layer DVD writer. Now that's out the way let me move on.

    1) I have a 8+Gb ISO image file but I can only burn 4.7Gb discs. Is there a way to span discs so I can put the image onto 2 discs? I use Nero Burning ROM ver 6, but as far as I can tell there is no option to do this.

    2) I have a folder full of all the necessary files to make a DVD (VOB, IFO & BUP). Altogether these file take up 8+Gb of my hard disc space. Is there a way of either squeezing the resulting movie onto 1 x 4.7Gb DVD or, alternatively, spanning multiple discs?

As you can probably guess from these questions I am a newbie at this so please explain in really simple terms or point me in the direction where I could get some help.

    Thank you

    Spoog.

  2. Take a look at DVDshrink.
This program can open your ISO image and will allow you to compress your ISO to one disc or span it across 2 discs if you wish.

Take a look in the guides section and you will find the relevant guides to help you on your way

If you can get Nero 7, I suggest you to get it.

On Nero 7, there is a feature that will automatically reduce your bit-rates (quality) so that big files can be fit into smaller DVD.

    DVD Shrink will fit it.

If it's a home video the better method is to encode your material to fit to the disc to begin with. There's a calculator here that will help you determine the correct bitrate to begin with: https://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm

Lower bitrates will allow you to fit more to disc, it also will produce a lower quality video. Depending on how good your source is once you start going below 6000 you can start to see a difference.

Personally I never go below 6000 no matter what the source is. Discs are cheap and I like to maintain the best quality possible. That will give you about 1.5 hours of video per 4.7GB disc. Some will argue that's overkill and in the case of VHS it just may be.

I like CloneDVD 2 for shrinking DVD's but DVD shrink is free.

    Spoog.
Sure, DVDFab, (the old freeware version) will span discs. And, as suggested, DVDShrink can fit the movie onto one disc. I suggest you look here to download them and also read some simple, concise guides on Fab and Shrink:

Another way, which I prefer, is to use DVDRebuilder to re-encode the movie to fit a DVD5. Takes longer, better results, many run it overnight. Be sure to get the Rocka's installer if you decide to try it.

Any of the above are quite simple to do. Welcome and good luck.
