  1. "A video sequence header is necessary for every GOP in a standard DVD."

I dropped the .m2v file in there and got that. Well... how do I fix this without reencoding the file? Is that possible?

  2. You could try a MPG fixer. Perhaps that would work. Something like All Media Fixer or video Fixer.

Or - If you have TMPGEnc you may want to try running it through the multiplexer and see if that will fix it.

  4. I used this in the past to fix this error. https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Restream
However your error message means that the file was encoded wrong.

You could try to use the TMPGEnc MPEG Editor (Trial).
    http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tme.html

Just load your clip into the editor and set the output to be DVD compliant.
    That should fix it.

    EDIT:
Just discovering the trial package is limited to 30 minutes length of video.

No, it won't. This tool is only good for one thing, is to check, adjust, and finetune the A/V sync. Ofcourse, its only my opinion.

MPEG Corrector will cure your problem, IF they are mpeg-1 streams.
Maybe you can give these two a try:
    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=PVAStrumento
    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Restream

Note: I have not try them myself, the last time I had this problem, it cost me to re-encode again. I made sure I wouldn't make the same mistake again.

I'm guessing that the 2nd error you got was to do with a GOP too long ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

It sounds like you do not have TMPGenc setup to insert a sequence header before each GOP. Go to the GOP Structure tab and for the option, Output interval of sequence header, set it to 1.

Fixing an mpeg1 file without sequence headers is easy. There is a program called mpeg sequence maker that can do this. Another trick is to use TMPGenc's cut and join tool. Just add your mpeg and set no cut points, and output to a new file. Sequence headers will be inserted. This trick may work with mpeg2 files as well, I've never tried it. I don't know of any other tool that would accomplish this any other way though.

In the future it would probably be a good idea to work from a template in TMPGenc. Load the appropriate NTSC or PAL template and then load the unlock template to adjust your settings. If you are starting from a fresh project, aka not a template, and you are using mpeg2 than you have to adjust the GOP settings or you will be way off compliance. Your GOPs will be too long and you won't insert any sequence headers. You are probably experiencing both of these.

  12. you're exactly right adam. i'm going to try your idea with the mpeg1 method to work with mpeg2. i'll let you know how it goes. thanks!

  13. One other to try is the trial version of VideoReDo's quickstream fix tool. If you try that do not forget to register for the trial key or it will only output 30minute video. with the trial key it will be completely functional.

    Good Luck

I have been using it for the last few months. Don't get me wrong, it is a pretty good app, I do like it for making A/V sync adjustments. But it will re-encode mpegs if they are not 100% compliant. Like Jimmo says, the ' GOP is too long..' scenerio. And you can't prevent it from re-encoding.

Oh yeah, another thing I like about this app is the batch de/multiplexings.
