I've been a member of this forum for a pretty long time, but unfortunatly video encoding is like a foreign language, if you don't use it often you forget a good bit of it. So anyway I'm using fitcd to make my avisynth scripts out for me. My source avi's are 608x336 1.81:11 23.97 fps and in fitcd I select on the left side 1:1 monitor and check anamorphic on the left and anamorphic on the right side and select 720x480 as destination and use 2 blocks for the overscan setting. My problem is I set CCE to encode as 16:9 ( which in theory should keep it anamorphic widescreen and not stretch the video in any way, right?). After testing out the video on my 4:3 sony wega tv the people look a little off, as if something is not right, slightly wider. I do however see the tv 14 logo in the top left corner and the tv station's logo in the lower right corner, so I know I've got the whole picture. Am I using the right settings? here is my script:
# -= AviSynth v2.5.6.0 script by FitCD v1.2.4 =-
AVISource("C:\LS2ep1.avi")
LanczosResize(688,352,4,0,600,336)
AddBorders(16,64,16,64)
ConvertToYUY2() # For VirtualDub or CCE
Thanks in advance

Anamorphic 16:9 output means they will appear stretched if the display isn't compensated for - the way most department stores have their widescreen TVs setup so the punter doesn't get upset by those nasty black bars. If you author as well as encode to 16:9 and have your player set up correctly, it will compensate for you and everything should come back into shape. Don't set anamorphic on the lefthand side, as the source avis are NOT anamorphic. That is what is throw out the numbers.
