  1. I had Pioneer fix an audio problem on my DVR-310S a few months back and now I realize that it is no longer region free, the way I purchased it. Any idea how to reset it back to be region free? I cannot seem to find a firmware that will flash onto the drive. If I have found correct firmware, perhaps I am not doing it right. The dos prompt always says cannot find device. I downloaded firmware for the dvr 106, which is what the closest thing to the drive my the recorder is (dvr-106 X A is what it says on the drive). I don't know how they could have reset the region information in fixing an audio issue, but it's done. I've been all over the net back and forth from this page to rpc-1.com and have found nothing. I'd appreciate any suggestions, other than sending it back to Pioneer becaue I doubt they would change my region info.

  3. The dvd recorder model is dvr-310s, but the drive inside it is called dvr 106 XA. I've never found any information on the XA part of it, so I guess firmware for the 106 would work.

You probably flashed your recorder with new firmware that has region set in it. Whoever sold it to you, he was able to remove that restriction from old firmware. And I assume that it was done without permition from manufacturer

  6. Mel: the try this did not come out in your post.
And no, I never flashed the drive at all. It was sold to me region free and since it's the international version of the recorder, I think it probably came that way. I'll have to give it another shot.

So how did you fixed audio problem ? I do not think that Pioneer makes "region free" DVD recorders. It must have been done by seller (I think).

  8. Interesting... This is first time that I heard of it. Anyway... In that post they are saying "tape that
runs across the box says that box has been opened in Australia for modifications." So in the end.... it did not came like that from the manufacturer

  9. It may have been modified sometime, but the box was not opened when I got it and showed no signs of ever being opened. It's the international model but has a 1 on the back. I got it at a store here in Los Angeles and really didn't care if it was region free but it turned out to be so. The audio problem was fixed by pioneer in Long Beach. The digital audio kept dropping out. i'm not sure what was done to fix this.
