    Hi

I'm looking to copy my DVD's on to a NAS so I can then stream my films to a Multimedia PC in the living room.

Now at the moment i'm playing with the initial VOB files merged into one big VOB file and i've also tried converted this VOB file to MPEG format. I then use PowerDVD to play the files.

I've been testing this between my laptop and home pc over a wireless link (in practice it would be hard wired), and when streaming from pc to the quicker laptop the movie plays just fine, however when streaming from laptop to the slower pc (1.3) there is some stuttering (again in practice the multimedia pc will be a lot higher spec).

My question is: is this the best way? or is there a better format to convert to that would reduce the risk of stuttering?

    Suggestion would be most welcome.

I daresay it's probably a data-rate issue with the slower PC, possibly related to RAM (or lack thereof) or the video card capabilities. The network can obviously serve it fast enough, but the PC cannot "decipher" (for want of a better word) it fast enough for smooth playback. You could try a format that has a lower data rate (such as XviD for example) to test this.
    If in doubt, Google it.

You could turn them info divx. Thats gonna be less demanding on the network I'd think. I've done it before without issues.

Obviously, since it streams fine one direction, it is not a network issue. As pointed out above, the pc just isn't fast enough. If that pc is just for test purposes as you pointed out, then you don't appear to have anything to worry about.

Cheers for the comments, it's good to know I'm not totally going down the wrong path.

    Thanks

    Merry Christmas
