I just bought a Dell Axim X51v (it's on its way) and I'm trying to brainstorm ideas for uses of it. For what do you use yours?

If I had one. Ebook reader for sure.

Seriously I'd want one of the Cellphone PDAs so I could use it to remote access into my home machine from anywhere.

  3. I have a Palm m515 that I use for e-book reading, keeping track of money that I have, owe, am owed and have spent, keeping track of deadlines and appointments (meetings etc.) but the most common use is for lab work. I have a whole host of scientific applications on there, the most useful to me being "Gene" which helps me select restriction enzymes and tells me which buffers they need to go in. Also has common ladders such as the 1kb ladder. Dead useful.

I should be getting a Palm Tungsten soon.

I don't see me using the "gene" program very much. A Computer Systems Analyst doesn't see too much biological material on a daily basis. No enzyme coding here.

I was trying to find some really good home use ideas. I guess I could of put that in my original post. I found some software sites that indicate you can use it as a multi remote... that is pretty damn cool if you ask me... Pardon me, I'm a little behind the times.

I normally use my palm for...

    ...wait, maybe I misunderstood.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

Yes. I first noticed this about two months ago while perusing the perpetual hack the Pioneer DVD recorder thread. Someone was using a downloaded configuration to mimic a Pioneer service remote. After this, I was sort of hooked. I searched around yesterday... apparently there are lots of choices for software for this use. Some of it makes the PDA work as a "learning" remote if you can't find the correct codes for you hardware.

  9. Use my IPAQ for Sat Nav mainly.
I have some limited remote contol with mine too, but only for the Telly and VCR but not the CD player, amp or DVD recorder.

  10. I have an HP rx3715.

Uses: contacts, calendar, notes, drug database, calculator, eBooks, play video files (DivX), play MP3s.

I has an excellent inbuilt remote control software that works very well... though the only time I actually use it is as an IR remote control for my Nikon D70.

    Regards.
